In a post at the MailChimp blog, Goat Milk Stuff cofounder PJ Jonas said that while she and her husband Jim (and their eight children, who also help run the company) diligently collected emails during trade shows, they wanted to expand without compromising their business’ approachable, family-friendly values. Surprisingly, email marketing allowed them to do both.
So, despite spending most of their time actually making their products, tending to their herd of goats, and somehow managing to run an eight-child household (seriously, bravo), Jim and PJ also manage to operate highly successful email marketing campaigns that offer their customers genuine value while keeping things simple – all without a formal marketing department in sight.
Keep Educating Yourself: Technology, best practices and everything else changes at a breakneck pace these days, so one of the best things you can do to keep your email marketing strategy relevant is to regularly educate yourself. Joining communities for email marketers or even just checking out blog posts and resources like this one on a regular basis can help ensure you stay up to date on everything new.
Some of the most valuable data your signup form has to offer is how and where subscribers sign up for your list. If you’re an e-commerce business with your store connected to Mailchimp, knowing where your customers joined your list can give you a better idea of how to communicate with them and where you might want to focus your marketing efforts going forward.
Write a compelling content – Our team at B2B Contact Lists helps you to present the content about your products and services in the most effective way, which raises the eyeballs of the visitors who become an audience later and so on. They say that content is king and rightly so. An awesome article having the relevant information is more than enough for the audiences to get attracted to your products or services on the website.

Unsubscribe rate. Unsubscribes are always going to happen no matter what, and that’s usually OK because those people probably would never have bought from you anyway. However, a high unsubscribe rate can indicate that you are losing potential customers. Check the following: Why did people subscribe to your list in the first place, and are you delivering on that promise? Is the content of your autoresponder highly relevant to the segment it is being sent to? Are you sending too many sales emails with too little value emails?
In dividing your list in this manner, you give yourself the ability to send more targeted communication. Some customers want both product and sales updates, while others might only want to hear about new versions. If you don’t give them the chance to choose, you risk losing them all-together. Since customers make the best buyers, it’s fairly obvious why you want to keep them subscribed to your customer email list.
As the primary driver of customer acquisition, email marketing can yield the highest ROI of all your marketing channels. Keeping up-to-date on email marketing best practices enables you to continually improve your program and reap a growing return on investment. But that can be easier said than done if you’re also responsible for maintaining the day-to-day details of your company’s email program.
We are talking about Email Marketing and if you haven't used this yet in your business you are leaving thousands, hundreds of thousands and even millions on the table! There are 7 Figures online businesses that are built only by using email markeintg alone. You don;t have to believe me on this one, just take a couple of minutes and chek the statistics and what every top internet marketer in the world is doing.
Affiliate networks also make it very easy to find products and services to promote. They will list advertisers by category and show which advertisers other publishers are currently having the most success with. Commission Junction, a large affiliate advertising network, currently has nearly 3,000 different advertisers listed. You will have the most success by promoting products that are closely related to the content that you write about. If you had a website about investing, you would primarily want to promote investing related services like stock brokerages and stock research tools. You wouldn’t get good results by promoting unrelated services like web hosting and domain name registration services.
It’s important for all marketers to fit their email marketing service into a budget. That's why at EmailOctopus we have the cheapest pricing plans and for small-scale users, an absolutely free plan. We’re the cheapest email marketing company out there, making us the best way to reach your subscribers. Don’t believe us? Compare our prices to our competitors below.
Create an action-oriented goal.[13] Your email should entice and prompt the recipients to take some kind of action. However, action does not necessarily mean getting them to buy something immediately. The goal could be getting them to reply to the email or even just getting them to click a link that brings them to your website. While people do manage to sell in their emails and drop people straight onto a credit card page, you will have more success getting people interested in reading more about your offer.
Make it easy to unsubscribe – Sure you don’t want to actively encourage people to leave your list after you’ve worked so hard to sign them up, but if you make it difficult, complicated, or hide unsubscribe options, not only will you lose them mentally but instead of unsubscribing they’ll probably report you as spam. And make sure your process unsubscribes within a week (most email services do it automatically).
For non automated emails and newsletters, you should always resend the same message to everyone who didn't open and or click your last email. This isn't always accurate, because email open tracking doesn't work if someone has images disabled. But doing this usually gets you an extra 20-30% boost.  I usually test out a totally new subject line on the resends. You can also rewrite part of the email with a different angle.
Do you know how your audience prefers to receive communication and when they are most likely to engage? (Hint: see tip M below which covers metrics and how to measure and learn more about your audience.) Understanding the ins and outs of audience behavior allows you to effectively personalize your email messages with language, tone, and delivery that truly speaks to them.
The takeaway here is that if you are to use personalization as an email strategy, do so in a meaningful way. It takes little knowledge or relationship to place someone’s name in your greeting. It shows far greater care to send personalized email that is specific to a recipient’s needs and history. Again, an example from my inbox, this email from Rdio dispenses with the formalities and simply provides an update on music I actually listen to.
Forget About Mobile: Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes you can make in email marketing is forgetting about mobile. If you’re only optimizing your emails for laptops and desktops, you’re missing out on a huge audience. Recent data reveals that one-third of marketers say their emails are read on mobile devices at least 50% of the time, and if your emails aren’t designed with these smaller screens in mind, their effectiveness will diminish rapidly. The best way to go is with a responsive design, that way you cover all screen sizes from phone to phablet to tablet to large external monitors (the same data finds that responsive design can increase email clicks by 130%).

When deciding the frequency of the emails you send, consider the following questions. How many promotional newsletters would be best to send to your customers per month? Are you going to send new collections or announcements about sales only? Which other types of emails would it make sense to send your customers? Do you want to do a single welcome email or a series of them? What about cart recovery and reactivation emails? Plan the entire chain of email communication with a given customer, and remember to explore the email marketing tools that your service provider has for setting up the frequency with which a customer receives emails from you.
Finally, your email marketing campaign can only succeed if you have a relevant list of quality consumers to target with your messages. Building a quality email list helps your marketing campaign succeed because it targets consumers already interested in your product. Many people end up on email lists because they sign up voluntarily. With a list of relevant consumers, you are putting ads in front of the eyeballs of consumers with an expressed interest in the products and services you promote.
Wow, Jeff! Fantastic article. Lots of great info to refer back on. You first came to my attention through the Profit Academy coaching & I sought your website from there. I love your very personal writing style. It is obvious that you are passionate about your work and care about people. You share top grade knowledge without the fluff. It is a powerful combination and why I listen when you speak. Thank you for gifting us the benefit of your insight.
Digital marketing is a sophisticated approach that businesses have to take into consideration to succeed online. Due to the development of different technologies, customers have shifted their attention to other devices, and to other forms of communication. It has forced businesses to rely on social media marketing, content creation, PPC campaigns, and email marketing.
Email Marketing is actually the rock-solid way of promoting a business by sending emails and newsletters. When marketers wish to connect with their target audiences in a conversion driven manner by using some personalized means, they prefer using Email Marketing. It is very powerful in establishing a connection with your prospects and ensuring revenues back to the business in the most cost-effective way possible. According to Wikipedia-
Now that you know who you’re writing to, it’s time to think about your content. What do you want to say to your audience? You’ll want to send emails with purpose, that really speak to your subscribers, so always keep in mind what they signed up for. It might be helpful to outline some general content types you can include in your campaigns, so you can refer to it when designing your emails.

When choosing images for your email marketing campaigns, consider those that represent concepts or interpretations of the topics included in your email marketing campaign. Look for simple, but bold images that draw attention but aren’t too distracting for your recipient. It may take a little longer than expected, but spending extra time on image selection helps your email campaign pop!
In 2018 a new law known as the GDPR will come into play in Europe that will affect anyone that sells to EU citizens. It’s focus is on ensuring customers have more control over their personal data. We’re not 100% sure on the impact this will have over email marketing, but it’s looking like double opt-in will be helpful. If you haven’t researched into this yet, it’s well worth doing so.

Loved reading this! Which of these would you recommend so that I could set myself reminders on certain clients so that I can follow up with them in the future? I feel like I am doing a lot of extra steps that I might not have to do if I was using an actual marketing software. I am in the very beginning stages of getting my business out there and I would like to follow up with potential clients down the road with an email… is this a possibility or should I just keep using my excel spreadsheet!?

Track the effectiveness through analytics. Most email service providers include free analytics when you use their programs. These analytics provide a great deal of information about the email’s effectiveness, but the three most important metrics are the open rate, click through rate (CTR), and unsubscribes. Knowing this information can help you tweak your content for more successful email marketing in the future.
As mentioned before, the type of email campaign you send depends entirely on your goals with email. If you’re looking to drive direct sales then sending marketing offer and announcement campaigns are going to return the best results, however if you are simply looking to keep your existing customers up-to-date on the latest projects, products or developments at your company, then sending a regular newsletter is going to be the best way to achieve that.
