Set an expectation for frequency – The key with frequency is to strike a happy medium. With email frequency, this is more about setting expectations, rather than a particular interval. For example, if you offer a free six-day mini-course then obviously your subscribers will be expecting an email a day for the next six days. Beyond that, a weekly email might be the right frequency, particularly if your emails are short, relevant, and to the point. The other extreme is not emailing them for weeks, then surprising them (not in a good way) with something out of the blue. By that time, there’s every chance they will have forgotten they subscribed in the first place!

There are plenty of ways to attract customers to sign up on your email list. It is not difficult and not at all time-consuming. One great way is to build in a popup window to notify your customers to sign up to receive latest updates and promotion of your website. Another method is to entice their participation by dangling a contest or lucky draws. Unique content and reader appeal will generally result in higher search engine ratings too, which in turn should drive more traffic and conversions.

Many marketers have been seduced by social media advertising, perceiving it to be not only “cooler,” but also more effective than email marketing. There’s no denying that social media gets a lot more media attention than email marketing. Any marketer worth their salt will tell you that email remains a cornerstone of their campaigns.

Which is why you should just turn those notifications off. Don’t even pay attention to the numbers early on because every unsubscribe is going to feel personal. I used to obsessively refresh unsubscribe data and experienced each one as a breakup, like I was being dumped! But we’re not for the people who don’t need and like what we have to offer, we’re for the ones who love it and can’t get enough! Now I don't even look at the unsubscribe list. If rounds of split testing, segmentation, and resends still result in low engagement scores for some of your subscribers then don’t be afraid to clean your list. Review subscriber data regularly to monitor activity and engagement ratings. Remove or further segment those who aren’t engaging in order to improve the overall open rates of your primary subscriber segments.
