Get familiar with the law – Laws on emailing people vary from one country to another so make sure that you are familiar with the legislation that governs electronic messages. For example, the CAN-SPAM act introduced in the US in 2003 dictates how businesses should follow certain protocols when sending emails to avoid prosecution. The FTC provides a good explanation of what it means for commercial email marketers, such as affiliates.
Send an abandoned cart email or series of emails. These are highly personalized emails that are sent automatically after a customer abandons his or her shopping cart. This email includes the abandoned items with images, prices and descriptions. Beyond that, avoid using all caps, too many exclamation marks, and hyperbolic phrases ("ACT NOW BEFORE TIME RUNS OUT!!!!"). Poorly formatted HTML in your emails can also hurt how they’re handled. Once you have your email marketing campaign up and running, you can start measuring the results! There are two ways to go about this. One, you can use your website analytics tool. Google Analytics is probably the most commonly used. The second option is to use an email marketing tool.  There are a lot of different email marketing tools available. Just do some research to figure out which one is right for you.

They are email addresses “hidden” on a web page, but which can be found by address harvesting programs, commonly used by spammers. Unfortunately it can affect legitimate email marketers, too. To make sure this doesn’t happen to you, choose an email service that offers a double opt-in option. This way any email address has to be verified with a confirmation email before being added to your list.
Honestly, when I say “be real” – I mean it.  Don’t be afraid to talk about your failures with people (on your list).  They want to know that you weren’t BORN rich, or one of those naturally fit people that was just made to be a fitness model.  They want to hear your story, they want to hear your struggles, they went to know that you were in the SAME PLACE AS THEY ARE RIGHT NOW, DAMMIT!
Test. Different email clients and mobile devices display emails differently. Send test emails to colleagues, or use a testing program to make sure your emails are going to look good on screens big and small. Testing reveals design mistakes before it's too late, and testing programs can predict whether or not a campaign will get caught in a spam filter. You could even set up accounts with a few different email services for easy testing. Avoid sending one big image as a campaign, and cover your bases with a plain-text option for every email.

The takeaway here is that if you are to use personalization as an email strategy, do so in a meaningful way. It takes little knowledge or relationship to place someone’s name in your greeting. When people sign up for a mailing list, they expect to read about information and issues they have. Perhaps find a solution to their problem. It can be an email mini course, tips and tricks article or an update on your latest products, it will bring your customers closer to you.
In 2018 a new law known as the GDPR will come into play in Europe that will affect anyone that sells to EU citizens. It’s focus is on ensuring customers have more control over their personal data. We’re not 100% sure on the impact this will have over email marketing, but it’s looking like double opt-in will be helpful. If you haven’t researched into this yet, it’s well worth doing so.

Subject line. What does better for you, emails with lots of information in the subject line or those with just a bit? If you have 200 addresses or more on your email list, A/B split testing can help you analyze two different subject lines for the exact same post to see which one gets a better response. There may be specific subject lines for your list that you’d like to test as well.
In dividing your list in this manner, you give yourself the ability to send more targeted communication. Some customers want both product and sales updates, while others might only want to hear about new versions. If you don’t give them the chance to choose, you risk losing them all-together. Since customers make the best buyers, it’s fairly obvious why you want to keep them subscribed to your customer email list.
